Lady's journey to better behaviour

Lady, a generally anxious rescue Dachshund, she become hyper-attached to her owners (meaning she could not be left alone), extreme fear to her collar and displayed fear around other people, dogs and scared of going to the vets. Unsure how to help her live her happiest life, her owners sought professional help.

Through positive reinforcement techniques and consistent guidance, Lady gradually improved her behaviour and Sally learned effective strategies to her her and gained a deeper understanding of Lady’s needs. This is what her owners had to say ….

“Lady is wonderful, a different dog to the one you first met. She has friends, both human and dog round the village and squeals with delight on seeing them. She can be left at home happily with no anxiety whatsoever.  She is fine to go to the vets and be examined/have blood tests/immunisations etc. they could not believe the difference in her when she last visited them. Although she still has a fear of the collar and lead, it passes as soon as it’s on her and I suspect it’s such a deep seated fear that it may never totally leave her. She listens to us and understands cues. Also, she’s happy for people she knows to come into the house and those she doesn’t takes a lot less time for her to feel safe round them. We cannot thank you enough for the help you have both us and Lady, she’s at a point that we never believed possible”.

 FAQs

  • When your animal is doing something something unwanted, unmanageable, frightening and/or dangerous, then a behaviour support package is more appropriate to address this. Raychel has devised 'Behaviour Packages' that involve an in-depth assessment of your dog in order to provide you with the best possible advice. Behaviour issues can be complex and need a more in-depth approach, including aggression, nervousness, reactivity, noise phobias, house soiling, over arousal, separation issues are all behaviours that would be need to seen in a full behavioural consultation.

The training packages are less in depth and only suitable for training issues (things you want your dog to do) such as loose lead walking, recall, to focus on you etc would be one of the training packages, either in one, three or six sessions.

  • Consultations with Raychel require a veterinary referral. Your vet will first need to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be affecting your dog’s or cat's behaviour. This process is in line with the Veterinary Surgeons Act and the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors code of conduct. ANY qualified behaviourist that you contact should adhere to this practice.

  • Whilst I cannot guarantee specific results, my training programmes are designed to achieve positive changes. I can’t wait to give you the support and guidance you need, to help you and your dog succeed.

  • I use positive reinforcement techniques, focusing on rewarding desired behaviours rather than punishing unwanted ones. This approach ensures a safe and enjoyable learning environment for your dog and promotes long-term behavioural changes.

  • In the behaviour packages (bronze, silver, gold) your initial consultation will be two to three hours long. The first half will be an in-depth discussion about your dog, their background, behaviour presentations and then motivations. Understanding your dog is important for you to be able to embark on your behaviour modification journey as a team.

The second half of the consultation is practical - training cues that are going to be useful in your dogs rehabilitation, along with your plan

Note: The mini consultation/ assessment package is a maximum two hours (suitable for less complex issues) so if you would prefer more practical or time in your session, it is recommended to go for a full consultation.
